RESEARCH PROJECT
Together with the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG, Kufner has developed solutions that help to improve economic and ecological sustainability in the operating theatre area. The objective of this medium- to long-term project was to limit the enormous amounts of hazardous waste generated in this area as much as possible.
In the first phase of our joint research project, we developed a multi-path solution for surgical gowns. By using a specific washing process that completely sterilises them, the textiles we have developed can be reused up to seventy times. At the same time, the new material meets all the required medical standards.
In the coming phase of this research project, other sustainable materials will now be tested, especially those made from recycled or local, renewable raw materials such as hemp and linen.
